Update

Well, we have been neglecting the website.  Nothing since September.  We are booked to play for the downtown Christmas parade, weather and temperatures permitting – that will be on Thursday, December 8th from 5-6 pm.  Then we have been asked to play for the Harvest Christian Christmas Dinner on Friday, December 9th at their NW campus.  We will share the entertainment again with Ray Mullen.  The dinner is from 2-6 pm.  So far that is all we have going in December.  We have one last gig in November at Linden Court on Friday, November 25th at 2:30 pm.

We brought Irish music to the Heritage Festival

We played this morning at The Lincoln County Historical Museum’s Heritage Festival. We had a great time playing many of our classic Irish tunes and a few classic Woody Guthrie tunes as well.

Happy Independence Day

Hope everyone had a great 4th of july. We Played at Linden Estates Friday July 1st. Had a great time as always. Heard mp3 playback. Didn’t sound half bad if I do say so myself.

Not playing again until the 16th of July; Outside at Linden Estates. This is a benefit open to the public. Will coincide with a car show. Come on out and support the community. We’ll be there most of the afternoon.

This Friday is OPEN MIC at A-Z. Best kept secret in North Platte. It’s a PARTY every time. Always a featured artist, always fun, always educational, always filling (plenty of snacks brought by guests). Starts at 7pm and goes till somebody locks the doors. it’s in the middle of the block on the east side of Jeffers between 5th and 6th street across from the Depot.

The Fort Cody Concert series is going great. The attendance has been light but the music has been awesome on Thursday evenings from 6-9 pm. Artists from in and out of town every week. This week will be a superb bluegrass group from here in town “The Sandy Bottom Boys”. Additionally !st National Bank is sponsoring a barbecue there. Fort Cody is on the corner of I-80 and hwy 83 next to the Village Inn. Great Bicycle destination. See you there. (they do peddle refreshments everything from water and pop to wine and beer.

Well I’ve got movies to return so I’m outta here. Talk at you all again soon.

NEBRASKA LAND DAYS BLOWS INTO TOWN

We played for the folks at the Prime Rib Sandwich Feed yesterday on the 14 of June. The wind blew down the street upwards of 40 miles per hour. We struggled from 4pm till 7pm to put on a show for the folks eating. They had benches made up of  2x8x12 that were blowing around some in the wind. The grand finale for us was when three mic stands, and several music stands blew over scattering Don’s music to the wind.

We were well recieved and the sandwiches were to die for. I swear I had a half pound of prime rib on my roll.

Enough about eating. A special thanks to George Lauby who filled in for Ed, (who was away in California for a family wedding where he played “The Wedding Song” at the church ).  Also a special thanks to James Burke who played some marvelous harmonica accompanyment (spelled wrong I’m sure). Also thanks to the folks at the Pawnee who let us use their fascilities for power hookup.

We did the best we could under the circumstances and time did pass quickly.  So now we’ve played in the dead of winter, the blazing sun of summer and in the gale force winds of late spring. We’re ready for a break and plan to play indoors the rest of the summer, except of course the occasional Farmer’s Market and possibly rescheduled Heritage Days.

Don’t know if anyone follows this website, but we will continue to make entries from time to time.

So remember keep listening, keep learning. STU

May is winding down

Can’t believe another month has passed us by. We had a delightful time at the bluegrass festival as the Infamous “Escape Hatch” band. Took no prisoners garnered no awards. The talent of the other showcase groups was really noteworthy. If you missed it this year make sure you get out there next year. One of the best 3 day events here in North Platte.

We have a new member to the group. Morgan, joined us after the bluegrass festival. She’s a retired nurse, who plays fiddle, recorder, and a little guitar. She’s shy about singing, hope to break her of that soon. Think she fits right in with the rest of us. Watch for her bio to be posted soon.

April and May saw us play for the great folks at Premiere Estates and Linden Court and Linden Estates. In June we’ll be tackling the Heritage Festival as ourselves (Flatrock Irregulars). Also doing music for MS walk at Cody Park.

All for now will try to mark up the calendar. See you out and about.

Events for April & May

Thought I would take a moment and update our calendar for events for the next two months.  For April we will be playing at Linden Court on Friday April 22nd at 2:30 for the residents – that will be a mix of Woody Guthrie and Gospel songs; the next Open Mic at the bookstore is on Saturday, April 23rd starting at 7pm.  Don’t know for sure if we are doing anything that night as two of us will be arriving later than usual, but it’s always a good time even without us; then we are in the Bluegrass Band Showcase again this year at the Bluegrass Festival at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.  That showcase will be on Saturday, April 30th.  Just recrived word that we are playing from 8:30 to 9 am.

For May, we are booked to play on Mother’s Day on Sunday May 8th at Linden Estates – not sure just what all we are playing that day; then we will repeat the April 22nd program on Friday, May 13th at 2:30 at Premier Estates with the addition of “Peggy O’Neill” and” Stardust” both songs that have been requested by the residents.

As more things develop we will attempt to keep you all up to date on where we are playing and when.  Thanks for your continued support.

March Review

We played the last of our scheduled March gigs on Friday, the 25th.  Our final one was at the Episcopal Church here in town and we received the most rousing welcome we have ever had anywhere.  Either they were being VERY polite or we were a really big hit – I prefer the latter.  The folks at both Linden Estates and Linden Court seem to like having us play for them.  We have plenty of music to change our program each time but we really need some new jokes, so we will have to work on that aspect.

So far for April we have a return visit to Linden Court on Friday, April 29th at 2:30 and the guys are hoping to be in the Bluegrass Band Showcase on Saturday,April 30th.  I have no idea what they are going to play and I am not sure if I will be joining them or not, but either way I’ll be there to support them.  We want to thank everyone who comes out to hear us play – fans are a band’s lifeline.  We do appreciate each and every one of you.
