I just listened to your arrangement of Somewhere Over the Rainbow with What a Wonderful World. I really, really liked it a LOT! :) Miss you guys. Wish we lived closer so we could hear your group from time to time in concert – and at the book store too. Blessings! Melinda & Roy

I love your playlist of songs you chose for the blessings of the animals service. Two songs I am not familiar with: Man Gave Names To All The Animals and Pigeons and Swallows. I am especially curious about the latter. Wishing you all a great week. M & R

  8. Stu says:

Regarding your question the song about the birds was penned by Writer Ray and set to music by Stu Meesenburg. The Man Gave Names to the Animals tune comes from Bob Dylan. (SLOW TRAIN COMING)

We learned a couple new song at Ed’s last week. We have two definite start the night and end the night songs now. “Come In” as performed by the Irish Rovers to start the night and the “Parting Glass” to close it all down.
We also worked on Harry Chapin’s “Cat’s in the Cradle”, “Puff the Magic Dragon”, “Hard Times of Old England”, and “The Worst Day Since Yesterday”. We’ll have to start memorizing this music for sure. The Books are getting to big to drag around with us.

Another post from me. We are preparing to do a 1930′s depression era concert for the Chataqua here at Cody Park. We are adding numerous Woody Guthrie Tunes, And some top hits from the 1930′s. When I feel more ambitious I’ll add them to the play list.

Check us out on the 17th at Harvest Church on the corner of Rodeo Rd and Buffalo Bill Rd. Donna of Donna’s Kitchen will be serving “FREE” Christmas dinner and we will seranade you. Be there or be square.

Hi Melinda, finally taking care of editing on the website. Man gave names to the animals is a Bob Dylan tune andPigeons and Sparrows was written by a cowboy poet friend of mine from A-Z Books (Writer Ray). He gave me the words and I wrote the tune. iT’S A SIMPLE STRUCTURE. I’ve included the chord structure. The letters between the slashes are each line of the song. (example line 1 G – - D / is the first line of the chorus) and the Words go like this:

    key of G
    G – - D / G – - C / G – - D – C – G / G – D – / – C – D -G / G- – D -C – G (chorus)
    Pigeons and swallows,
    Pigeons and swallows
Pigeons and swallows on the wing
Always urge my heart to sing
If I find feathers on the ground
I always look up and around
    G – D – / – C – -G / G – D – / – C – G – /
These little things by nature brought
have deeper meaning than others taught
In widely revered halls of learning
brings peace to mind always churning.
    G – D – / – C – -G / G – D – / – C – G – /
Do not spend your life on earth
    Spend your time upward winging
let your life be full of mirth
Let your life be full of singing
    G – D – / – C – -G / G – D – / – C – G – /
Be a swallow, be a pigeon
    Travel far above the earth
    Let happiness be your religion
Enjoy a life full of mirth
    G – D – / – C – -G / G – D – / – C – G – /
Find a feather on the ground
From a pigeon or a swallow
Pick it up, look all around
Where they go you can follow.
    G – D – / – C – -G / G – D – / – C – G – /
All it takes is in your mind
    Your must want to follow
Close your eyes if you believe
You can fly just like a swallow.
